It would be fairly safe to assume that the 4-inch display will be for the next iPhone – the iPhone 5."

When Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) launched the iPhone 4S in October, some thought the device would be a disappointment to the market because it was not a significant enough upgrade to the iPhone 4. Then Apple began to release sales numbers that confounded that theory. Yesterday, however, two conflicting reports emerged that claimed, alternately, that Apple was cutting orders of the iPhone 4S after slowing sales, and that this was not the case at all.
So which one is it? One indication could come in the form of some usage statistics from Facebook.

Today, the Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) train made a stop in Berlin, where CEO Steve Jobs and T-Mobile executives officially announced what everyone had already expected: T-Mobile will be the exclusive distributor for the iPhone in Germany. As with the UK, the phone will come out on November 9; it will be priced at 399 euros including taxes. In today's exchange rates, this works out to $557, even more expensive than the UK price of 269 pounds ($536). There had been reports T-Mobile, a unit of Deutsche Telekom (NYSE: DT), would distribute the iPhone in four other markets in its 11-country footprint: Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, and Hungary. This was not confirmed or denied today.
Steve Jobs reiterated Apple wants to sell 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008. But there is some skepticism about how Apple will fare in Europe, where a number of other strong handset brands are launching their newest devices. Wing-Yen Choi, an Amsterdam-based analyst at Theodoor Gilissen, speaking to Bloomberg: "IPhone is coming up against some strong European brands. Whether iPhone will succeed or not will depend a lot on how it's doing in Europe. I don't see Europeans sleeping in the streets to queue up for the phone.'' If the speculators get their hat trick right, Thursday will have an announcement from Orange and Apple covering distribution in France.

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Hardware, Rumors, iTunesAnother day, another analyst claiming to have obtained über-exclusive details on the much-rumored iPhone. This time around it's Prudential Equities, and they claim Apple has not one, but two iPhones planned for an early 2007 release (gee, when could that be). One will be a smart phone with keyboard, video and (duh) music capabilities, while the other will be a straight-up iTunes phone. Oh, and 'one' will have Wi-Fi - though PE leaves us hanging in suspense as to which model could sport such a sought-after mobile phone feature.I call foul here, primarily because I'm willing to bet information about the iPhone is under lock and key, and leaks are punishable most likely by being drawn & quartered (not to mention that any two-bit analyst can claim anything they want these days - hooray for the Dvorak method). However, one good point I can agree with from this IBS article is that Apple is being very cautious with this product, because mobile phones aren't iPods or personal computers, and there are a lot of new factors and features Apple needs to learn how to juggle in a device like this (let's not forget the most battery-hungry of them all: Wi-Fi). That being the case, I don't think Apple is going to offer multiple models - this is too new a market for them, and these devices are complicated enough without them trying to take on the very heated smart phone industry - for now.Ultimately, we'll see whether Prudential Equities is bluffing soon enough - January 8th is fast approaching.[via digg]Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | CommentsSource: http://feeds.tuaw.com/~r/weblogsinc/tuaw/~3/38192190/ David Chartierhttp://www.softwareheadlines.com/modules/planet/view.article.php/52988

Clandestine info about Apple's upcoming iPhone (see fake pic at right) keeps trickling in, and the latest assertion has Apple and Cingular teaming up to distribute the phone at first, with Cingular snagging exclusive rights to Apple's iPhone for its initial six months on the market. After that, other providers will also be join the fun.
As the story goes, the candy bar phone with a 2.2-inch display, iTunes and 3-megapixel camera is still on track for an early 2007 release. Those in the know think Apple will sell 25 million iPhones next year. Those are some big numbers, considering that 50 million of the wildly popular Motorola RAZRs have sold since its release in late 2004. – Charlie White

Filed under: Rumors, Video, AppleEveryone, including the New York Times, is talking about the novel suggestion from GigaOM's Robert Young that Apple buy YouTube. Young threw out the following reasons for Steve to get out his checkbook and snag YouTube: It would give Apple a place (well, another place) among the top 50 web properties. YouTube was ranked as 40th top-visited site in July by comScore Media Matrix. It would be a way for Apple to tap into the growing online ad revenue market. It would empower the video iPod. "The online video phenom can be to the video iPod what iTunes was to the audio iPod. It's not difficult to imagine mass consumers, especially tweens, downloading their playlists of YouTube 'video snacks' and viewing them on the go with their video iPods." The promotional synergy between YouTube and iTunes could be significant, especially if YouTube is able to get music videos from record labels and offer them for free. It would make Steve a social media mogul (as if he weren't already). What do you think? Is an Apple-YouTube deal sci-fi or possibility?Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | CommentsSource: http://feeds.tuaw.com/~r/weblogsinc/tuaw/~3/15531411/ Jan Kabilihttp://www.softwareheadlines.com/modules/planet/view.article.php/29071

An anonymous reader writes "With the Apple WWDC looming on Monday, the internet once again beats itself silly over what Steve Jobs has in store. At the most fanciful end of the scale, there's talk of the Apple iPhone, to which CNET says, 'keep on dreaming', and Gizmodo says, 'no visible evidence'. The only solid evidence of an iPhone, beyond the endless mocked-up images, is the discovery of hidden phone-related code in a recent iPod updater. Macrumors has some info on what the keynote may contain -- and there's no mention of an iPhone. So, as the rumor mill continues to grind over the weekend, let the predictions begin. Is there an Apple iPhone, or is there not?"
