Maserati's answer to the Ferrari Enzo Fxx, the MC12 Corse rolled into the sunlight for the first time at the Bologna auto show yesterday. The severely limited-edition model is based on the MC12 GT1 racer, which took the Spa 24 Hours in 2005 and 2006 and several FIA titles in both years. The Corse model gets a major boost in horsepower over the base model, to 755 hp, from a mere 600 in the MC12. And while its racer cousin gets a manual sequential gearbox, the Corse gets Maserati's electro-hydraulic Cambiocorsa (as well as a passenger seat). The price is the same in all markets, the company says, -- that is 1,000,000 Euros (around $1.3 million). It'll be available (that's a relative term, of course) starting in December 2006, ahead of Wall Street's holiday bonus season in early 2007, followed by All Hoonage Eve, which takes place in Westport, Connecticut around April. – Mike Spinelli

On today's Jalopnik Precast, Spinelli and Farago eyeball Nissan's GT-R, a new challenge for the Porsche 911 coming for the 2008 model year, as it's flogged on Germany's Nürburgring (though not by Sabine Schmitz). Then, they examine Maserati's new über-MC12, the Corse, and try to make heads or tails of the euros-to-dollars exchange rate in seven figures.

Er komt een nieuwe Maserati Coupe aan, waarvan we al eerder knappe photoshops hadden. Ditmaal is het slachtoffer de Maserati (Coupe) Cabrio.
Het ziet er zondermeer gaaf uit en laten we hopen dat dit dan de real deal is.

Maserati's been busy using some of its newfound luxo-bux to develop a new line of coupes that will replace its current range. These days, the company (and new Alfa Romeo mentor) is running road tests on its upcoming models, which are cryptically disguised to resemble a splice on a dormroom lamp cord we once performed, using an entire roll of electrical tape due to chemically induced temporary OCD (don't ask). Spies from Automedia believe they've solved the mystery. Three new cars are reportedly in development: a Quattroporte-based 2+2 to replace the GT coupe, a cloth-top Spyder to compete with the Mercedes SL-Class and a four-seater CC with retractable hardtop. No word on when the first of these will arrive, but we've heard the 2008 model year will see the 2+2, and that's our bet. Any takers? – Mike Spinelli

How close is Maserati's new, 2+2 GT Coupe from an official reveal and launch? We're just not quite sure -- some say 2007, others 2008 (we're going with the latter). But prototypes keep popping up hither and thither, like this one spies caught on the Nürburgring. The voluptuous (we hope) new model will replace the current coupe and spider units, sporting a retractable steel roof and a more potent Ferrari V8, possibly in the 5.0-liter range.

Teddy Roosevelt is one of our favorite presidents. We thoroughly believe that California has the best flag in the entire world. Spencer Windes is one of our favorite men. You can't front on Gentle Ben. One of the most poignant lines ever written about the Golden State is, "Well they killed all the Indians, and they shot all the grizzly bears," from Dave Alvin's "Out in California." So why wouldn't we want a Maserati Trofeo Teddy Bear? No goddamn reason at all, other than that we're sure we couldn't afford it. But, if you're as down with the ursine crowd as we are, live near a Maser dealer and have the scratch to spare, one can be yours. Available in 18cm, 35cm and keyring sizes.
