Considering that Porsche owns a considerable portion of Volkswagen and the company already builds the Bugatti Veyron and the Lambo Murcielago we wonder what the introduction of Porsche's 254-mph GT1 will do to their bottom line. Will they, as Bugatti chief Thomas Bscher decreed, not sell to rappers? Or with the GT1 become the favored supercar of Jay-Zed and the RZA? Either way, this thing is totally automotive crack rock. Speed's got a full rendering produced by the UK's Autocar. Czech it.

BONN - Het Duitse kartelbureau heeft sportwagenfabrikant Porsche de toelating gegeven om zijn aandeel in Volkswagen te verhogen tot 25,1 procent. How did we not know about this? Famed motor-racing driver, car collector and Porsche dealer died in a wreck on the autobahn in 1997, leaving his estate to the Vasek and Anna Maria Polak Foundation. In 2000, a team of crack thieves absconded with a stock of NOS and rebuilt Porsche racing motors: four naturally-aspirated Porsche 917K race engines, a NOS 3.0L Porsche 908 mill, one 2.2L Porsche 907 Hillclimb engine, and one 3.4L Porsche 911 race engine. This seems rather dumb to us, as the market for these engines is necessarily a small one. And wha' happen'? They were finally nabbed and the collection returned to the Polak foundation.
On March 25th, just under our Pedro-based noses in El Segundo, the whole kit 'n' kaboodle was auctioned for a mil to Dale Miller of Miller Historic Motorcars. And we didn't know about it! Nobody told us! The money went to cancer research, and we have to say, despite the fact that we didn't make it up the 405 to Segundo, we can't think of a happier ending to a theft. Om maar eens lekker ontopic dit artikel te starten: Porsche the Best! Je weet toch;) Het nieuws komt ditmaal van de Duitse tuner TechArt, deze heeft de Porsche Cayman onder handen genomen. Het resultaat is een 3,8-liter (standaard 3,4-liter) met een vermogen van 385 pk (standaard 295 pk) en 407 Nm (standaard 340 Nm).

Is er leven na de Carrera GT? Volgens het Britse Autocar wel! Porsche zou namelijk plannen hebben voor een nieuwe super-sportwagen. The Heads that are of the Piston variety report on a story in this week's Autocar indicating Porsche is going after the Bugatti Veyron with a LeMans-style racer for the well-heeled public. Word is, the GT1 will be based on, but far outperform the Carrera GT supercar, with 950 hp and a top speed of 254 mph. It'll have a new nose and tail, presumably to further reduce lift. The finished product is said to arrive in 2009, possibly with a twin-turbo V10 or worked-over V8.

Zwitserse tuner Z-Art geeft het 986 model van de Porsche Boxster, met een bodykit het uiterlijk van het 987 Boxster model. Voor de metamorfose is Z-Art o.a. met het nodige spoilerwerk rondom aan de slag geweest.

According to Edmunds Inside Line, the Porsche boys aren't satisfied with their 21.2% stake in Volkswagen. A new power grab in the works would expand Porsche ownership of V-dub to over one-quarter (25.1%), which execs say would further protect Porsche's joint-venture interests from hostile-takeover barbarians at the beleaguered VW's gate. Regulators have yet to approve the plan, but Porsche execs, naturally, expect such a go-ahead is forthcoming. Despite talk that the widening ownership is an attempt to reconcile separate sides of the Porsche-Piech family since a split in the 1950s, the self-protection theory makes sense, considering 30% or Porsche's sales volume is from VW, in the form of the Cayenne SUV. And what of VW's business woes? Will they drag the Porsche dream team into a union-management chaos vortex? Stay tuned.

The 2007 Porsche Boxster is getting a power bump, with the Boxster S now coming within a Briggs-and-Stratton minibike of 300 hp. The base model will get a 5-hp boost, to 245 hp, from a similar 2.7-liter mill as the '06 model. The Boxster S, which is getting a new, 3.4-liter flat-six, will get a 15-hp bump to 295 hp -- which is said to propel the S from Zero to 60 a tenth of a second quicker that the previous model (5.4 seconds vs. 5.5 seconds). Both engines will get Porsche's VarioCam Plus variable-valve timing -- upgraded, natch -- and both cars can be ordered with Porsche's revised Tiptronic autobox, which Porsche promises new settings and better performance. Expect word on the US version soon. [UPDATE: From the US press release -- The 2007 Porsche Boxster and Boxster S go on sale in North America in August. U.S. pricing for the new models is $45,600 and $55,500 respectively.]

De fusie tussen de Duitse autofabrikanten Volkswagen en Porsche, voorgenomen in 2009, loopt vertraging op. Dat maakte Volkswagen donderdag bekend. De samensmelting, die gepland stond voor het einde van dit jaar, kan niet worden voltooid vanwege een aantal juridische kwesties. In februari gaven de twee al aan dat de fusie vertraging zou oplopen, onder meer vanwege een strafrechtelijk onderzoek naar oud-topman Wendelin Wiedeking en oud-financieel directeur Holger Härter. Hun wordt onder meer marktmanipulatie verweten.Volkswagen en Porsche blijven bij hun voornemen om te fuseren, maar de lopende onderzoeken maken het onmogelijk om de economische risico's van de fusie te kwantificeren. Daarmee is het volgens Volkswagen ook onmogelijk om de waarde van Porsche vast te stellen. Dat cijfer is nodig om de ruilverhouding van de aandelen van beide concerns te berekenen.
