netbuzz writes "Akamai says that it will offer IPv6 services to its entire customer base beginning next month – a long-awaited move that is expected to be a major boon to the adoption rate of the next-generation Internet Protocol. Akamai hoped to release its production-grade IPv6 services by the end of 2011, but the task proved more difficult than originally anticipated. Akamai has been beta testing its IPv6 services with key customers since last fall."

"The Supreme Court on Monday threw out a lower court ruling allowing human genes to be patented, a topic of enormous interest to cancer researchers, patients and drug makers. The court overturned patents belonging to Myriad Genetics Inc. of Salt Lake City on two genes linked to increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer. The justices' decision sends the case back down to the federal appeals court in Washington that handles patent cases. The high court said it sent the case back for rehearing because of its decision in another case last week saying that the laws of nature are unpatentable. In that case, the court unanimously threw out patents on a Prometheus Laboratories, Inc., test that could help doctors set drug doses for autoimmune diseases like Crohn's disease."

Foto: Thinkstock Dat schrijft de Japanse krant the Daily Yomiuri.De ontwikkeling van het cyberwapen zou in 2008 van start gegaan zijn en is inmiddels uitgebreid getest in een gesloten omgeving. Het wapen is controversieel omdat het na een aanval de route die malware heeft afgelegd kan nagaan en zelf kan doorlopen. Vervolgens is het niet alleen mogelijk om de afzender aan te vallen, maar kunnen ook alle computers en netwerken waar de malware langs is gekomen, uitgeschakeld en beschadigd worden.Zo is het in theorie mogelijk dat onschuldige consumenten of bedrijven slachtoffer worden van een cyberaanval van Japan omdat zij, vaak zonder het door te hebben, het virus hebben doorgegeven.
Cyberoorlog
De Japanse krant stelt dat het land het cyberwapen niet wil inzetten als aanval, maar zoals de werking doet vermoeden meer als verdediging.Het bedrijf Fujitsu zou de Japanse overheid geholpen hebben bij de ontwikkeling en het testen van het cyberwapen. Het bedrijf wil echter niet ingaan om vragen van the Daily Yomiuri en beroept zich op beroepsgeheim.De afgelopen maanden duiken er vaker berichten op over landen die werken aan cyberwapens. McAfee sprak onlangs nog de vrees uit voor een echte cyberoorlog. Iran werd eerder aangevallen door mogelijk de VS met een virus genaamd Stuxnet. Dit virus was gericht tegen het nucleaire programma in het land.

NEW YORK - Bij acties van de Occupy-beweging donderdag in New York zijn betogers en de politie slaags geraakt. Duizenden hadden gehoor gegeven aan de oproep naar Wall Street te komen. De actievoerders begonnen hun protestactie met een mars door het financiële district van New York. De autoriteiten hadden versperringen neergezet om te voorkomen dat de actievoerders naar het beursgebouw liepen.Verscheidene demonstranten werden aangehouden toen ze bij het Zuccotti Park, waar ze eerder een tentenkamp hadden, metalen hekken probeerden weg te halen.
